We all know that project not on same drive as ide won't function with the run buttons.

I am constantly telling people that is the problem when they are new users.

Why can't the IDE check for that condition and just tell the user right away?

This is a limitation when developing with IDE. It is depends on the location of VCL for PHP.
Please see release note and support KB as below.
[Delphi for PHP 2.0 Readme - Running and Debugging inside the IDE]
[Where is the vcl-bin subdirectory?]

That is understood.

What I am saying is make the computer bark at the user and tell them they are doing wrong. The program probably only needs 2 lines of code added to it to check if the project and the ide are on the same drive and if not pop up a dialog and tell them they are bad and to do it right or not at all. :)

Seems like it would be a lot better than just not working.
