There appears to be some serious problems with the loss of keyboard focus within JBuilder 2006 (never had any problems with previous versions).  I experience this problem regularly throughout that day.

I have experienced the message window or the project pane to grab focus from the editor pane and never give it up even though you click back into the editor pane.  I currently have JBuilder open and have just completed a search within a file.  The search pane in the message window has now grabbed the focus and no matter how much I click the mouse in the editor pane all of my key strokes go to the search dialog, however I can still bring up the context menu within the editor pane.  The only way I am going to regain focus in the editor pane is to completely close the message window (thus losing my search results and making the whole thing pointless).

I have also experienced problems with dialogs not being able to get keyboard focus.  I have right clicked within the project pane and selected to create a new class.  The dialog opens as normal, I can click options with the mouse as normal (e.g. 'No Default Constructor' etc.) but I cannot type anything into the entry fields (ie I cannot create a class named anything other than Untitled).

This is a SERIOUS problem that really needs to be addressed - it makes the latest version of JBuilder almost impossible to use...
Steps to Reproduce:
Just use it for a while..... it amazes me that this was not spotted before release....
Close the window that has the focus (and lose your search results/debugged application/etc), or quit JBuilder.

Found a different workaround:

use the message pane close button (maybe more than once). Sometimes this helps.

But it is still not a real good solution.

Are you using Borland Look & Feel? I see some focus problems with it.

If you are on Windows switch to native Windows. On *nix I don't know what to suggest ;-(

I'll give Metal a go... :(

Problem seems to disappear if you make JBuilder use a more recent jdk. Its original jdk is 1.5.0_03. I switched to 1.5.0_06 and everything seemed alright.

To change JBuilder's JDK you need to modify the "javahome" property in JBuilder_HOME/bin/jdk.config and make it point to where your own jdk is installed.

I tried that but it still happens, even with JDK 1.5.0_07.  The problem still persists in Fedora Core 5.

Another workaround works for me: It is enough if I minimize and maximize JBuilder.
Also I found it always happen when you do not go to editor directly, but from some link, like compiler or runtime error, serach result, etc...
