Would it be possible to include more (if not all) of the units in the SourceInt folder (which contain only header information) over to the Source folder instead (which contains compilable code).

This exposure would make it much easier for component developers etc to understand the workings of Bold and create more solid code.

It would also enable us to fix problems ourselves and submit the changes.  Currently we have to rely on  Borland to release a fix, and this process takes far too long (even for critical show stoppers).

Come on, you know you want it, so vote for it :-)

Is this likely to be a "wont do"?  If so a conclusion would be nice so that votes may be reused.

Nick Hodges at 6/10/2003 7:50:23 PM -
This is totally my opinion, but I'll bet that this comes back "won't do".

Peter Morris at 8/29/2003 9:02:06 AM -
If it does, then it needs to come back quicker.  Holding votes for so long on a "wont do" is wrong in my opinion.

I suspect that the code will be moved progressively over time, but I doubt that all of it will ever make it across.

One of the big advantages of the Professional package, and higher, is the source code. For some, that is the only incentive to buy Professional (it was for me, even though i am a hobbyist). I doubt Borland will give that up easily by providing the source to everyone.

The request is to release the source in the Architect version only.

It would have the same effect as if it were in the Pro version, ie it would be available to people outside of Borland.

Kjell Rilbe at 9/22/2003 11:16:46 PM -
I know that. My "why" was referring to Nick's statement that he thinks it will come back as a "won't do". I repeat: Why?

I would love an indication, even a non legally-binding one which can change etc (normal disclaimers).

nara alisson at 11/3/2003 1:10:03 AM -
For example i have an assert raised in BoldLinks.pas line 613.
Without sources, i can't understand why...

Bold is useless without sources.  Since Borland refuses to commit to maintaining Bold on a regular basis, only idiots will adopt Bold.

So Borland can choose:
  a) Publish a maintenance schedule and product road map
and b) Have a 'tiger team' ready to issue hot fixes for
problems on a fast turn time (few weeks at most)

  c) Release sources to Bold so we can live with it.
