Description
.NET FCL for VCL Developers by Michael Li
TYPE: Regular Session
LEVEL: Intermediate
PREREQUISITES: None.
ABSTRACT: You have been developing in Win32 VCL for years. The .NET Framework offers a new API called FCL (Framework Class Library) filled with rich features and improved functionalities.  This session is designed to ease your learning curve when working with FCL.  Topics include plenty of demos showcasing topics like accessing network and user information, application object, working with configuration files, serialization, encryption, hasttables, SortedList, ClassHelper, formatting strings/dates/floats and sending emails from an application.  Unique to this session, examples will be illustrated in parallel first in Win32 code and then the equivalent in .NET using Delphi 2006.  A comprehensive 45+ page whitepaper will also be included as well.

FCL is a new framework.  For those of us who have been working under the comfort of VCL, learning the FCL seems like a daunting task.  Delphi 2006 for .NET supports the entire FCL.  This session is designed to show VCL developers the new and cool tricks in accomplishing the same tasks they used to do in VCL.  I have been working with Delphi since v1 and Pascal 1.0 prior.  This paper was written specially to capture all the common things that I need to do in VCL and their equivalent in FCL.

Code examples are show in Delphi Win32 and then in Delphi.NET using FCL.  Full presentation material is ready to be reviewed upon requested.
