I would like the Code Central search to have a simpler user interface, with a more intelligent back end. I recommend having two search forms: basic and advanced. The Advanced search form would be much like the current one.

The basic search form would have a single edit box, where the user enters a series of keywords. The keywords would be matched against all fields, including a full text search of all attached files. The results would be weighted, giving higheer weights to matches against specific fields and lower weights to matches against attachment content.

The basic search form would not require exact matches for submitter names, could match multiple submitters, and would allow matches for keywords other than what the submitter entered.

The value of this proposed interface is three-fold:

1. The interface is simpler. The user sees a single edit box, not a fom full of fields.
2. The burden is not on the submitter to concoct the perfect list of keywords. If the submitter forgets a keyword, or forgets a common synonym for a keyword, currently, a search might not match a record that should be matched. With a full-text search, the chances are higher of matching. (This proposal does not solve this problem entirely, but offers a slight improvement only.)
3. The user can search for unintended or unexpected aspects of the submissions. Perhaps the user is curious about entries that use VisualCLX instead of VCL. If the submitter did not enter CLX as a keyword, this information is difficult to obtain. (Item #3 is related to item #2.) Or maybe the searcher wants to perform a statistical analysis to determine the percentage of submissions that make use of repeat-until loops vs. while loops. Only a full-text search of all attachments permit such free-form searches.

When searching, I want to distinguish Freeware and Shareware, Product. Confusing advertisement is cowardly.

The taborder in "Criteria Search" is messed up,
goes from "ID List" to "Keywords" to "Submitter" .... instead of
"ID List" to "Submitter" to "Products" and so on
