Description
Gentlemen:

Since before the release of D2009, I have noticed a lot of programmers asking about Unicode. The questions are about the differences between AnsiString and Unicode and how the programmer should efficiently use them, parse them, store them, in both new and legacy programs.

More recently, new Delphi programmers have been posting problems with the older ANSI string and character types.

Because there is no obviously good forum for these posts they are being scattered over all the forums, with the result that the intelligence that is being put into the replies is being diluted.   For example, on 2010.10.14, there were 217 posts made to the embarcadero.public.* forums that I monitor, 20 (or 9%) of which were related to problems of handling strings and characters, and these 20 were spread out in 8 different forums.

Thus, I suggest that we consider the possibility for adding a single forum for discussing the use of strings and characters of all kinds in Delphi and maybe (CPP Builder) applications on the server newsgroups.codegear.com.  The forum could be named "embarcadero.public.delphi.strings-characters"

The usual argument against adding another group, is the large number of groups that we already have.  As a counter to this argument, I found (on 2009.05.05) that there are more than 30 (of the present 162) groups which have not received even one posting within the past month, while there have been about 1000 posts with "unicode" in the subject within the past 6 months within all groups. (This averages to about 166 posts with "unicode" in the subject per month.)

As of 2009.05.16, here is the distribution of posts with Unicode in the subject line among the forums:

Please even add groups for cppbuilder.

Vincenzo,

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having separate "stings" groups for CPP and Delphi as compared to having one combined  "stings" group?
