Messages window will show an error like:

Error executing 'C:\ProgramData\{BBD31133-40F8-4B57-9BA6-DB76C03D153B}\Setup.exe': The parameter is incorrect

or

Error executing 'C:\ProgramData\{BBD31133-40F8-4B57-9BA6-DB76C03D153B}\Setup.exe': The window does not have scroll bars

Delphi 2010 Trial

Platform is Win7 RTM 64 bit

Steps to Reproduce:

Start up Delphi 2010.
Messages window will show an error like:

Error executing 'C:\ProgramData\{BBD31133-40F8-4B57-9BA6-DB76C03D153B}\Setup.exe': The parameter is incorrect

or

Error executing 'C:\ProgramData\{BBD31133-40F8-4B57-9BA6-DB76C03D153B}\Setup.exe': The window does not have scroll bars

Workarounds

Not able to find one.

Have you ever installed/uninstalled Beta(FieldTest) version before installing trail version?

No, only RAD2009 ent full version was installed before the D2010 trial.

Same problem with a clean install of Win7 Ultimate 64Bit and RAD Studio 2010

It sounds like the problem that various people have discussed for the last few versions.

If UAC is enabled and you told the IDE to check for updates on startup, such an error will occur on startup. UAC believes files named Setup.exe requires administrative privileges, so it prevents the automatic launching.

It has been suggested in the newsgroups that adding a manifest explicitly stating that it doesn't need to be started with administrative privileges should do the trick - it would then have to request elevation when needed.

I just started having this problem after installing Help Update 2. I did install the update via the IDE. Windows 7 32 bit.
I did not have the problem when I installed Help Update 2 on my other computer that runs Win XP, but there I got the update notice, closed Delphi and installed the update.

I found no way to disable the automatic check for updates on startup within de IDE.

As a workaround, delete the UpdateCheck key on registry on this locations (both if found)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CodeGear\BDS\7.0\AutoRun
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CodeGear\BDS\7.0\AutoRun
